Whats up guys? Figured this would be a cool way of keeping all of our thoughts and ideas together.

  1. hey guys! so i think it would be a good idea to start talking about our expectations for the group contract so i can go ahead and start typing that up as part of our first component!

one thing that i would mention is how important it is that we all contribute! that means more than just saying "yeah i agree" to whatever the person above says!

as far as what should happen if someone's not doing their work..i'm not so sure. hopefully we won't have that problem ;] i think it would be far to say that that individual wouldn't be able to present with us..but i dunno, what do you guys think?

for the first component so far..i have that we're doing refugees from the country of somali into kenya. we choose this topic simply because it seemed interesting and because of naima's insight on the situation! for what we intend to accomplish, it could be to just simply shed light on the issue, but if any of you guys have anything deeper, that would be rad :]

i look forward to hearing from you guys :]

  2. For the first component......I would say talk up Naima's insight into the situation personally for sure. Some things you could go into would probably be the realness of working with a project where people in our group have been affected by the situation and the insiders perspective type advantage we may have over other optional projects. What we intend to accomplish? I was reading a few articles that I found off of Google relating to the abuse and neglect of Somali refugees. Here's one link to what I be talkin' bout. http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2009/03/29/kenya-end-abuse-and-neglect-somali-refugees. What else do you need help with as far as research or anything else? Let us know what we can do to help with your component or what you feel may be lacking...etc. p.s. As far as the "not holding their end of the bargain and/or not contributing to research" I really like the whole not being able to present the project with the rest of the group. That would be like the ultimate smackdown punishment cause it would effect that persons final grade and hurt their feelings too! I'm not one for hurting feelings but we should recognize in the group contract that we're all very busy students with packed schedules/jobs/special projects/social lives....but we still need to stay up late and contribute to this janks. Word? wordd......

  3. I really like the idea of not allowing anyone who does not pull their own wieght to present. It seems like it will be really effective in motivating anyone who would have otherwised been a slacker. I also think it is important for each of us to communicate if they are having issues with their component of the assignment. I really am digging this whole blog thing because it can be hard for us all to get together in person.

As for the first componenet I think it would be good for us to mention that Naima's perspectie and insights make the issue relevant and really brings it to our doorstep.

  4. Hey everyone, I was thinking more about what we should look into for this project and I agree with what you guys said but I also think we should look deeper to see if there are organizations trying to help, or if they helped then left to go help in different areas, also focus on the struggles they had coming into Kenya, what their struggles are for everyday life, and maybe how we can get invovled on our end to help. Just some thoughts. Let me know what I can do to help.
